MediaRoad – European Media Ecosystem for Innovation

EU Funding Programme

Creative Europe

Project description

The EU-funded MediaRoad project aims to foster collaboration between researchers, content creators, broadcasters and entrepreneurs in order to encourage and enable innovation in the media sector.

The project aspires to awaken a ‘start-up mentality’, reshaping the way media organizations collaborate and deploy new ideas in the market. The project aims to cover topics such as Augmented and Virtual Reality, robot journalism or 5G, and also to address future research policy priorities in the media sector.

Objectives

MediaRoad is a highly innovative coordination project with three interconnected Hubs:

  1. The Sandbox Hub enables media organizations to create a series of interlinked incubators, or Sandboxes, where SMEs can test and scale innovative concepts in operational environments. Each Sandbox will offer workspace, infrastructure and internal support for short periods. The Hub creates a toolkit, support Sandbox launches, and attract startups.
  2. The Policy Hub develops a policy vision for the whole radio and AV sector on topics such as the EU research agenda, data, 5G, security, immersive media, investment, training and regulatory issues. It holds workshops, share updates, draft vision documents and link to other research projects.
  3. The Network Hub creates a series of events to bring together broadcasters, researchers, content creators, technologists and entrepreneurs to inspire collaborations and share knowledge.

Topics include social media, post-convergence radio, multi-platform content, new audience measurements and robot journalism. MediaRoad turns EU diversity into opportunities, helps organizations become more competitive and ultimately benefits audiences with better content, better delivered.
