GDPR4CHLDRN: Sports associations and hobby clubs as gatekeepers providing practical tools to ensure children’s data protection
Project description
The project will provide the SMEs with a very simple toolkit for assessing their data processing practice to achieve the following goals:
- Ease the SME’s work needed to meet the GDPR requirements.
- Produce complementary materials that simplify the currently available materials and tools even further
- Decrease the number of complaints at the Data Protection Ombudsman’s Office (outcome of the better processing practices adopted by the SME’s).
- Set the threshold to enter the DSM lower.
This will strengthen the SMEs’ capabilities to ensure that their data-processing practice meet the GDPR requirements. This should also lead to fewer complaints from the data subjects to the Data
Protection Ombudsman. Simultaneously, it will provide an opportunity for the SMEs to enter easily on the digital market, because they can be confident that their practice is in line with the GDPR.
Objectives
This project aims to reach the following target groups:
13-17 year olds:
- Provide information in a form best digested by children when informed of data protection rights
- Produce easily understandable content of data protection for 13- 17 year olds.
- Improve understanding of the GDPR and data protection.
- Ensure that the children know their rights and can take action to protect their data.
Parents of 13-17 year olds:
- Produce informational materials for parents
- Improve understanding of the GDPR and data protection.
- Improve understanding on how data protection affects children and how children can take action to protect their rights and data.
Hobby clubs and associations, especially football and scouting, during the pilot phase:
- Produce concrete and practical guides and videos
- Produce an operations model for sports clubs that describes how data protection can be taken into account in practical club activities. This model will then be scaled to other associations and clubs during the last part of the project
- Produce digital “Data protection badges of excellence” for people active in different roles in the clubs
- Produce a set of self-assessment questionnaires for volunteers
- Produce informational materials for parents and children to be distributed through the clubs
- Pilot the icons, operations model and informational materials with four football clubs and a scout group
National associations:
- Spread information of data protection to different sport clubs and other associations
- Scale the project results in Finland and in Europe
Companies that produce services for sports clubs:
- Survey whether the companies need additional support
- Provide incentives to begin using icons to clarify how data protection is taken into account
